Substrate Lightmix
Plagron Lightmix is a high-grade substrate with balanced nutrients and optimum physicochemical parameters that allow for the healthy development of plants in all life stages. The composition of this product provides the proper structure for healthy root development.
The main components of Plagron Lightmix are as follows:
- White peat of premium quality – ensures an optimal moisture level and air circulation within the system
- Perlite – to enhance drainage capabilities of the substrate
- Coco fiber – to maintain the growth of the root system
The substrate also contains all the necessary macronutrients: total nitrogen (N): 180 g/m³ (105 g as nitrate and 75 g as ammonium), phosphorus (P₂O₅): 210 g/m³, which helps to develop roots and flowering, and potassium (K₂O): 360 g/m³, making plants less prone to stress.
Advantages of Plagron Lightmix
Plagron Lightmix has a number of strengths that make it more effective than other substrates. First of all, it has a balanced pH level (6.3-6.7), making the perfect nutrient absorption medium, a factor very important for a plant’s healthy development. This pH range makes all the essential minerals available to the plant, while keeping the concentration of toxic elements in the lowest possible amount.
Another big advantage lies in the optimal Electrical Conductivity (EC) value of 1 mS/cm measured at a dilution of 1:1.5. This factor is especially important to ensure protection of young plants from excessive nutrient concentration and stress. This is what sets Plagron Lightmix apart from many other substrates which usually come with very high EC values.
It also has enhanced air circulation through the substrate, aided by the presence of perlite and coco fiber in its unusual physical structure and composition. This property promotes healthy roots growth and development while providing sufficient oxygen and preventing rotting.
Long-term effects best describe Lightmix. The substrate tends to release nutrients slowly, giving the plant steady and balanced nutrition. Combined with all this, it forms a perfect environment for healthy plant development.
How to use Plagron Lightmix
Preparation
Prepare your working bench first. Hands should be washed well before beginning the operations. Tools that will come in contact with the seed beds should be sterilized so that no pathogens get introduced. Old pots should be disinfected by whatever means possible. The package of the substrate should only be opened immediately before use so that the properties of the substrate do not lose their efficacy.
Sowing
- Prepare pot: Set out for a pot of a size that is appropriate (preferably a small seedling pot or seedling box). Fill it with Plagron Lightmix substrate so that there is not excessive empty space in the pot. If working on regular pots, it is better to leave a gap of about 2 to 3 cm on top.
- Seed sowing: In the case of very tiny seeds, just scatter them evenly over the surface of the substrate and gently press with the finger or a flat tool. They do not need to be covered completely with soil. For big seeds, a little depression should be dug for each seed about 1 or 2 cm deep, the seeds should be set in place and then gently covered with substrate.
- First watering: Upon planting, lightly spray the substrate with water from a spray bottle. This watering should just be enough to barely moisturize the surface of the substrate.
The seed should be capable of germinating and ultimately establishing itself as a seedling under favorable conditions. The temperature is usually kept between 22 and 25°C for quick and uniform germination under all conditions. Plant exposure must be away from direct sunlight or more intense artificial light for the initial days of germination since these conditions risk damage to seedlings; however, the intensity may be increased slowly to full intensity during the beginning of leaf development to facilitate their growth.
When mixed with Plagron Terra Grow, Plagron Terra Bloom, and Plagron supplements, Plagron Lightmix assure top quality.
